Ian joined me for this early season hike up La Plata Peak.  The hike was typical Sawatch -- steep and long.  The late spring snow still provided for some interesting moments, especially on the way down.

There was nothing really memorable about this day as I write this trip report over two years after the fact.  I just remember that the hike ended up taking a lot longer than we expected, and really exacted quite a mental and physical toll on both of us.  It was a long day, but a fruitful climb.

La Plata's Northwest Ridge from the saddle.

The infamous and imposing Ellingwood Ridge.

Ian taking a break on the ridge.

Me getting ready to head up the ridge.

Me on La Plata's somewhat snowy summit.

Me and Ian on La Plata's summit.

A look towards the Elk Range FAR in the distance.

A look back down into the valley from where we began our hike.

Ian "floating" on hip deep snow on the Northwest Ridge.

Beautiful box canyon near the trailhead, with late spring runoff roaring through.
